The Trewythen – A Four Star, 2 Rosette Restaurant with Rooms

The Trewythen, formerly known as The Trewythen Arms, is a Grade ll listed Georgian property based in the busy market town of Llanidloes, Mid Wales, the property has been renovated into an elegant restaurant with rooms and has been awarded 4 stars by Visit Wales and our Restaurant Chartists 1770 has received 2 AA rosettes.

The building was the scene of the Chartists riots in April 1839, which saw peaceful protests for voting rights become riots on the streets of this small town. Three members of the Chartists movement were imprisoned in the, then Trewythen Arms, angry crowds overpowered guards at the premises door to set the men free. It is said it took another 4 days for soldiers to restore order and eventually 33 people were imprisoned. Whilst the riots didn’t achieve voting rights across the UK they certainly helped pave the way for more successful chartists protests later on.
